About the Event

Relating to our bodies in a loving and kind manner is a basic human need. However, depending on our history, education, cultural conditioning, or even being subjected to trauma, we might find it difficult to attend to this fundamental need.

Practicing body-loving-kindness is an opportunity to enhance mindfulness of the body and also to nurture a more warm, compassionate attitude toward the body, especially when there is physical or emotional discomfort.

Body-Loving-Kindness is an exercise in loving, spacious awareness of the body, along with appreciation when there is ease and compassion when there is discomfort. It is a way of making friends with the body,  embodying the yin qualities of comforting, soothing, and validating our experience.

In this session, we will explore the benefits of loving kindness, engage in a guided practice, and then relate the practice back to mindful eating.

Learning Objectives

  1. Experiencing a guided loving kindness meditation and being able to practice on their own.

  2. Identifying the concept of loving-kindness.

  3. Describing some of the scientific evidence about the benefits of loving-kindness practice.
