It addresses mindless and stress-related eating, emotional eating, disordered eating patterns and obesity so prevalent in our culture through the application of mindfulness meditation.

“…Andrea is a passionate facilitator and teacher with vast meditation experience, who is able to balance the science behind MB-EAT with mindfulness practice in a way that creates a learning environment that is both rich in depth and breadth. I highly recommend this course. It is both personally and professionally rewarding. "

    - Barbara Sobel., MS, Integrative Nutritionist, Winter 2016 Online MB-EAT Training

Through mindful eating practices, one learns to pay attention to what the body really needs and why, how to experience the full pleasure and taste of food without overeating, and how to release the guilt and struggle so often associated with eating. The approach of inner and outer wisdom, integral to the program help support each person to make informed, balanced, healthy sustainable choices over a lifetime, while being truly nourished by food and other aspects of their lives on many levels.

You will learn to become an embodied mindful eating and meditation practitioner and instructor.

This course integrates the step by step tools for you to implement and teach the 12 week MB-EAT group outpatient program to your clients, with a special focus on the core practices. Foundational to learning to teach these skills to your clients is establishing your own personal mindful eating practice.

From a firm personal foundation, you can be the best, most effective, confident and inspired support and guide for your clients’ journeys.

This live interactive small group training in our virtual classroom, uses state of the art video conference technology easily accessible to your computer, tablet or smartphone. It's like being in a room training together, but from the comfort of your own home or office. Practices and topics introduced include mindfulness meditation, eating exercises, eating meditations, guided visualizations, loving kindness and self-compassion practices, didactic instruction, inquiry method, role playing, tools, motivational interviewing concepts, weekly home practices, assignments, coaching and self-reflection to cultivate mindful awareness and a more balanced and positive relationship to eating and weight.

You will gain personal understanding, experiential learning, and have a new intimate relationship to mindfulness and mindful eating practices.

You will learn to apply a variety of mindfulness and mindful eating practices, coaching approaches, information and tools to your clients, both individually and in group settings.

Upon completion of the training, participants can be qualified to teach the 12 week MB-EAT group program to their clients. Inquire below for eligibility requirements.

"You don't just learn about the techniques of mindful eating with Andrea, you learn what it FEELS like to live, breathe and practice a lifestyle of eating as a form of meditation.  She helped me experience mindfulness and understand meditation through the lens of a mindful eater. By practicing this art at the table, we transform and embody this practice beyond the table, as it moves into other experiences in our lives.  As a fellow dietitian, Andrea is a unique gift in the world of nutrition because she breathes live into everything she teaches, which then only deepens my own understanding of nutrition and convinces me even more how possible it is to make peace with food."

In the work of pediatric nutrition, particularly the issues related to an excessive or poor consumption of food that some children and teenagers have, it is necessary to understand the family eating habits and beliefs around food. Mindful Eating can help children reconnect with the wisdom of their bodies to make adequate eating decisions. It can also help parents trust their children skills to eat a healthy and balanced diet without too many rules or food restrictions.

     Participants will:
    • To explore the Family eating habits
    • To understand the parents beliefs and expectations around the nutritional approach

Presented by Marsha Hudnall, MS, RD, CD

    and Sandra Aamodt, Ph.D.

As concern about body size continues as a primary topic among those interested in health and well-being, it is essential that mindful eating teachers understand the role of mindful eating in supporting the internal regulation of a healthful weight. Equally important is to recognize weight stigma, which is a driving factor for eating and weight struggles among many people. This presentation will equip mindful eating teachers with understanding, knowledge and tools to help their clients move beyond the thin ideal to make eating choices that truly support their health and well-being.

    • Participant goals:
    • Describe the role of mindful eating in supporting the internal regulation of body weight.
    • Identify three ways weight stigma contributes to ill health.
    • Explain the self-determination theory that supports the power of mindful eating to help people make discerning choices in the interest of their health.

This program is the last of our Foundations of Mindful Eating webinar series  that are designed to provide a comprehensive introduction provide a foundation in mindful eating principles and practices. ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS:

A registered dietitian nutritionist, Marsha Hudnall, has been a voice of reason and a thought leader for the last three decades in helping women move away from restrictive notions of food and health so that they can better adopt a sustainable approach to eating well.

She has spent the last three decades working to help women give up dieting rules and understand how to truly take care of themselves through mindful eating and living. Her mission is to help women learn to enjoy eating and living well, without worries about health and weight. She encourages women to embrace their love of food, which you might call being a foodie. If so, it’s appropriate because being a foodie means you pay attention when you eat -- a recipe made in heaven for eating well.

Since 1986, Marsha has been a part of Green Mountain at Fox Run, the Vermont women's retreat that pioneered the non-diet approach to health and healthy weights. An accomplished writer, she has written hundreds of articles for popular magazines, newsletters and professional journals, and has worked extensively on a national basis to produce curricula and pamphlets to educate the public about nutrition and about the impact of dieting and the diet mentality on eating behaviors, including binge eating and emotional eating.

Long active with several national professional associations, Marsha recently stepped down from the board of the Binge Eating Disorder Association in order to serve as the president of The Center for Mindful Eating.

You can find Marsha on Green Mountain's website, which features her writing in articles and on her blog A Weight Lifted. You can also reach her on Twitter @MarshaHudnall and on Green Mountain at Fox Run's Facebook page, or email her at Marsha@fitwoman.com.

Sandra Aamodt, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist and science writer, most recently the author of Why Diets Make Us Fat: The Unintended Consequences of Our Obsession with Weight Loss. Her talk at TEDGlobal 2013 about why she stopped dieting and started eating mindfully has received over 3.5 million views, and she has published opinion pieces in The New York Times and elsewhere.

In collaboration with Sam Wang from Princeton University, she wrote two other books. Welcome to Your Brain: Why You Lose Your Car Keys But Never Forget How to Drive and Other Puzzles of Everyday Life was named Young Adult Science Book of the Year by the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2009. Welcome to Your Child’s Brain: How the Mind Grows from Conception to College was published in 2011.

She received her undergraduate degree in biophysics from Johns Hopkins University and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Rochester. After four years of postdoctoral research at Yale University, she joined Nature Neuroscience, a leading scientific journal in the field of brain research, in 1998 and was editor in chief from 2003 to 2008.

In her free time, Sandra loves dancing, truck camping, travel photography, hiking, and cooking. You can reach her via sandraaamodt.com, on Twitter @sandra_aamodt, or at sandra.aamodt@gmail.com.

This training is designed for professionals who have completed ME-CL1 or an equivalent mindful eating professional training program, have an ongoing formal meditation practice, and have led one or more 8-week ME-CL programs or equivalent.

The heart of this second level training is an invitation for experienced mindful eating teachers to explore more deeply the principles that are the underpinnings of the ME-CL program and to step more fully into embodied mindful presence. Teaching from this platform highlights the need for the teacher to have an ongoing formal and informal mindfulness practice.

This training will focus on the cultivation of intentional presence, authenticity, integrity and mindfulness-informed boundaries that support both the teacher and participants. We will examine the importance of meeting ourselves and our participants with steadiness and kindness, and carefully contemplate the place of compassion in this program. We will explore the psycho/spiritual aspects of eating which include craving, greed and aversion.

Throughout this training there will be opportunities for teachers to explore the intention and rationale of mindful inquiry and practice the skills associated with this pivotal piece of the program.   This second training invites a higher level of collegial participation and sharing. There will be time to nurture these qualities and skills through silent mindfulness practice, teaching opportunities, discussion and personal mentoring by the teachers.
